Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia

INTAN’s Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management Programme (DPA) is a 10-months course which has been designed comprehensively as a pre-requisite for the appointment into the Administrative and Diplomatic Services Scheme. The course consists of Academic Component, National Integration and Self-Resilience Component as well as Leadership and Interpersonal Skills Component.

INTAN’s strategic collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia successfully developed a two weeks comprehensive mix-mode (combination of classroom lectures and outdoor activities) module (Disaster Management Module) under the National Integration and Self-Resilience Component.

Amongst the objective of the module is to instil knowledge and some basic skills related to fire hazard, fire protection as well as fire and other rescue management which is vital to manage and minimise the impacts of any disaster. The module also aims to introduce policies and mechanisms pertaining the roles and responsibilities of relevant agencies in the event of any disaster management. The module also aims to introduce to the participants to the overall organisation and the core functions of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia.

The module has been also designed to boost self-discipline and resilience among the participants. Hence, outdoor activities such as Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT), Oil Spill Exercise, Sewer Exercise, Breathing Apparatus Training Gallery (BATG), Rappelling and Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) are also included in this module. All in all, the module comprises both the theoretical and the practical aspects of disaster management.
