Abstract
The rise of digital transactions has resulted in a transformation in online funding via crowdfunding platforms. Despite that, crowdfunding is still considered as an alien method not withstanding the regulations on equity crowdfunding enacted since 2015. This article explores crowdfunding in detail especially on its distinct category, features and history. This article focuses on donation-based category only and why it has already existed within Malaysia traditions and culture. Crowdfunding strengthens the donation system in Malaysia and is reliable, easy and transparent. It facilitates philanthropic activities at one’s will as well as secures one’s privacy. In conclusion, crowdfunding is a catalyst that can benefit many people. This method is modern and should be given ample opportunity to develop in tandem with other option available. Hopefully, Malaysia can become a pioneer as a successful crowdfunding nation in tandem with our respected position ranking in World Giving Index.
