Abstract

With the onset of digital transformation, the role of the Health Information System (HIS) has been expanded from simply recording patient data to an integrated system capable of assisting medical officers in delivering appropriate treatment. Thus, it is imperative to ensure the effectiveness of HIS, and one of the methods to determine it is through evaluating competitive advantages. In this study, one of the HISs used in hospitals in Malaysia, known as the Patient Management System (SPP), was selected as a case study to determine competitive advantages. The VRIO framework (value, rare, imitable, organisation) was applied in the questionnaire and then distributed to staff at three government hospitals in Malaysia. Three hundred eighty respondents answered the questionnaire, and the study outcomes substantiated that SPP met the VRIO framework. Besides, the study's data substantiated that all demographic factors did not affect competitive advantages except for respondents who hold two roles; medicine and administration.
