Abstract

Big data analytics can help Malaysian higher learning institutions (HLIs) improve decision-making, foster innovation, and enhance educational outcomes. This study explores policy perspectives on using big data in higher education. It outlines five key policy areas: strengthening infrastructure and technology adoption, developing human capital, ensuring data privacy and security, fostering research and innovation, and promoting collaboration and partnership. A strategic plan is proposed, including forming a task force, securing funding, training programs, and establishing monitoring. This approach helps institutions develop resources, ensure responsible data practices, and support research and applications of data analytics. The paper emphasizes that a coordinated effort involving HLIs, industry, and government bodies is essential for successful implementation. It concludes that adopting these policy perspectives will not only advance academic and administrative functions but also contribute to broader societal progress. By integrating these strategies, Malaysian HLIs can enhance their data analytics capabilities, drive informed decision-making, and achieve long-term success in a data-driven educational landscape.
